5 Tips for Freshening up Your Visual Displays

October 11, 2017

It’s no secret that visual merchandising can make or break a sale. Whether creating a display at your customer’s office or rearranging your showroom, the way you present product will make all the difference.

Studies show that it only takes three seconds to make an impact in a showroom and that 82% of purchase decisions are made on-site. In-store experiences allow customers to touch, feel and try on all the products at their fingertips. This leads to more satisfied customers, who know exactly what they’re getting.

Sometimes tackling your merchandising can feel a bit overwhelming. The good news is that you don’t need to have artistic ability or deep pockets in order to make an impact in any space.

Here are a few tips from our experts when it comes to creating memorable showrooms that will help bring in more sales.

Color

Don’t discount the importance of selecting the right colors in your displays – it’s one of the most powerful tools in your toolbox.

If presenting to a specific customer, use their brand colors and logo to help them visualize their company in your decorated product.

In showroom, use bright colors to attract attention and draw your customer’s eye to a display. Try using contrasting colors, like black and white, with pops of color. Colors can help tell a story and will dictate how people navigate your space.

Use Your Space Wisely

Customers get frustrated if they can’t reach products, so keep them within reach. Fill higher spaces with signs instead of with product. If needed, use shepherd’s hooks to help get items down for shorter customers.

Create space for visitors to interact with your display and for employees to work. It’s equally important to leave space between products on the wall so customers can pick up a piece without bumping into one another.

Save customers time by grouping similar products. Consider placing merchandise that are the same color, price, size or type together.

Consistency is Key

Make sure that all of your hangers are the same shape and color. It helps to create consistency, which helps the customer stay focused on the product. Part of that is also matching your hardware. It needs to be the same color to help create uniformity in your display.

Set the Mood with Lighting

Draw customers in with intentional lighting. Find the right balance between having it too bright or too dark. Remember that your lighting can highlight certain product attributes that the customer may not have otherwise seen

Keep a good proportion of light and shadow in your space. Too much or too little light will change the color of the products or hide important details.

Tell a Story

Create a visual story that shows how or where a product may be used or worn. It will inspire customers to picture themselves in those settings with those products.

Use signage to display the advantages of buying certain products. Tell the story of the product to help customers better understand why a certain piece would work better for them than another. Help them see themselves in your products.

Utilize lifestyle photography to help visualize how and where people use products. A picture really can be worth a thousand words…and perhaps even a thousand sales.
