Earth Day is a movement that’s all about inspiring, challenging ideas, igniting passion and motivating people to action. Here at SanMar, we thrive on these beliefs every day. It’s just one part of our effort to make a difference in each of our communities around the country and in the locations where we source our products globally.
We’re proud of our recycling and composting efforts throughout our distribution center network. We use light bulbs with sensors to reduce electricity usage in our warehouses. SanMar supports more than 300 employees working from home, removing hundreds of cars from roadways each day. Our corporate office will soon kick off a farm-to-table food program, providing locally grown and in-season produce options in the café.
We’re conscientious about working with suppliers around the world committed to the same goals and beliefs that we have. In Central America, our affiliate offices are dedicated to biomass fuel production, using commonly grown king grass to power portions of the plant. This project has been six years in the works and is a prime example of using a local resource to generate electricity. Our global efforts also include planting trees to celebrate milestones at sourcing facilities in Africa and Asia.
This Friday, April 22 marks the 46th anniversary of Earth Day. We’re proud of our efforts to celebrate our planet each and every day and encourage you to find new ways to make a difference this Friday and all year long.
