While there’s definitely a valid case to be made for why every day can be Earth Day, April 22 is still an excellent day to take a closer look at the impact you and your business have on the environment and to decide how you can do better in the year to come.
Here at SanMar we’ve been making changes across the business to understand and improve our own impact, and we’re excited to share our progress with you.
First, we’ve taken the first step toward developing a climate commitment using science-based targets. You’ve likely seen other companies making announcements recently about being carbon neutral, and SanMar is proud to join them in their dedication to doing the right thing for the planet we all share. Setting a science-based target is a deliberate, thoughtful five-step process that we have begun. Read more about our climate commitment and what it means on A Canvas For Good.
While our climate commitment is an important step for our business, we also want to be able to help you do business more sustainably. This is why we’ve put together a Sustainable Brand Book which features apparel crafted to make the best use of materials. It includes products from brands you already know, like The North Face®, as well as some that may be new to you, all tailored to appeal to the sustainability-minded customer. The new Brand Book will soon be available on sanmar.com.
The apparel itself is the end result of much of this effort, which is why SanMar is proud to offer a growing selection of sustainable options. T-shirts and masks made of recycled fabric or organic cotton from Allmade®, vibrant bags stitched together from repurposed fabric scraps by Cotopaxi, and the District® Re-Tee® and Re-FleeceTM are just a few examples of the ways our sustainability mission takes shape in the clothing we sell. Keep an eye on sanmar.com for even more sustainable apparel products in the coming year.
Finally, while there’s no question that sustainability is a process that requires hard work, it’s also a movement that feeds into many current trends. Never one to miss a beat, our trend expert Vicki Ostrom talks about two of those trends in her most recent article on The Style Network. You can learn all about what’s most important to hipsteaders and followers of the cottagecore movement in Lifestyles of the Conscious Consumer.
It’s true — Earth Day isn’t really just one day. The best way to celebrate on April 22 is by making a commitment to better understand our own impact and to simply do better. When it comes to doing the right thing for our planet, we here at SanMar are here for it, every day.
